Welsh pub restaurant betws-y-coed

The "Y Stablau - Stables Bar" in Betws-y-Coed, Wales, is a charming pub-restaurant located in the heart of this idyllic village, often referred to as the "Gateway to Snowdonia." As part of the family-run Snowdonia Hospitality & Leisure group, which has been active in the region since 1971, it blends the traditional coziness of a Welsh inn with a modern, vibrant flair. The restaurant is a popular spot for hikers, tourists, and locals looking to enjoy a hearty meal or a refreshing drink after a day in the stunning landscape of the Eryri National Park. With its focus on local ingredients and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, "Y Stablau" has established itself as a staple of the local community.

Local beers and craft gins

The menu is diverse and reflects the rich culinary tradition of the region, with regional produce at its core. A highlight is the "Welsh Burger," made with high-quality meat from a local butcher and served with crispy chips and creamy coleslaw – a dish that captures the freshness and flavor of the surroundings. For those seeking something filling after an active day, the "Beef Lasagne" offers a comforting option with tender beef and a rich sauce, perfectly complemented by a side of warm bread. Vegetarians are also well catered for, with a spicy "Chilli" that is freshly prepared and served with a hint of heat. The dishes are cooked to order, further emphasizing the quality and taste.

Vegetarian dishes at y stablau

The drinks menu is another highlight: "Y Stablau" features local beers and handcrafted gins from North Wales, celebrating the regional heritage. A freshly tapped cask ale pairs wonderfully with the rustic dishes, while the separate Coffee Pod offers high-quality coffee drinks for a short break or a pick-me-up. The bar regularly hosts live music, ranging from traditional Welsh choirs to modern DJ sets, adding a lively and sociable touch to the restaurant and making it a gathering place for various occasions.

Vibrant atmosphere with live music

The atmosphere at "Y Stablau" is warm and versatile. Inside, there is a successful blend of rustic wooden elements and modern design, creating a cozy ambiance. The outdoor area – a covered terrace with heaters and atmospheric fairy lights – is a highlight, especially in the warmer months when guests can enjoy the fresh air and the village's activity. The restaurant is dog-friendly, with water stations and even a small dog menu, making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who want to bring their four-legged friends along. Orders can be placed either traditionally at the bar or conveniently via an app, making the service flexible and contemporary.

Wait on getting a table but worth it

If I wanted my burger bun to double as a breadstick, I’d have gone to an Italian restaurant. The top was so crisp and dry it practically crumbled like a cracker — I half expected to find cheese and chutney on the side. Even the coleslaw had been treated to a warm embrace under the heat lamp. I didn’t realise I’d ordered a "hot slaw" special. On the plus side, if you're ever craving a meal that feels like it's been basking in the sun for hours, this is your spot

Lovely pub with prompt and polite service. I enjoyed listening to the locals speaking Welsh with the bar staff, and watching the world go by outside.

Oh what a shame, we have been coming here for years. The quality of the food was not up to previous standards. Pub food, restaurant prices!! 2 pieces of beef in steak and ale pie, pastry rock hard. Lasagne all chees little meat. Don't bother changing anything for me, I won't be back.

Great! Particularly liked the "canoe" shaped chips. My friend nikki rested her peas in them! Lovely.

Lovely place, tables indoor and out, with twinkly lights and outdoor heaters. Excellent service, the bar staff checked everywhere but there was no gluten-free beer available on the day we visited 😞 Enjoyed a diet coke with ice and a slice instead and soaked up the lovely atmosphere 🙂

To me it's very similar to a wetherspoons! Foods ok the venue is nice but it doesn't blow your socks off ! But it's still the busiest place in the area so what do I know !!! I got the gammon and my partner got the pasta . Both dishes average and service was quick .

Always a good experience here, friendly service, good food and wether it’s summer or winter always a good atmosphere. Food has always been very good, and the burgers! WOW. They definitely replace some much needed calories after a day in the mountains!
